What’s With the Hair?
I have been through the hair removal wars let me tell you. I’d love to fill you in on all of the gory details from the time I basically glued a pair of lacy knickers to my nether regions with residual DIY wax, but I’ll save that one for another post…
Let’s face it, hair removal is a tiresome (and seemingly endless) task. But if you’ve been wondering how best to trim or shave your pubic hair, there are ways to give yourself a break and make the whole process a heck of alot smoother (pun intended). Choosing the best bikini trimmer or razor for your needs is one of the simplest hacks.
Why Choose a Bikini Trimmer or Bikini Razor?
While waxing, sugaring, and epilation can provide both long lasting and silky smooth results, they are painful- it’s unanimous.
Plus, depending on where you live, trips to the beauticians for this kind of treatment can be pretty expensive. IPL ( or laser hair removal) has become more popular recently thanks to its usually pain-free procedures (not unanimous at all as it seems to completely depend on the person) however, it can be a very costly option, with each session racking up a bill of $200 minimum.
Taking trimming matters into your own hands can be an excellent option because it’s cheaper than IPL and doesn’t carry the pain factor of waxing. Choosing the right product is key here, otherwise, you may find yourself with a hairstyle you weren’t going for, or worse: an uncomfortable rash, ingrown hairs, cuts, the list goes on.
How to Choose the Best Bikini Trimmer or Bikini Razor?
Advantages and Benefits of Each
The good thing about opting to venture down the path of trimming or shaving your lady parts is that there are absolutely tons of bikini hair trimmers and bikini razors available. The bad thing about it is that there are absolutely tons of bikini hair trimmers and bikini razors available. It can get a little overwhelming.
Let’s start with the basics, how do you know if you need a bikini trimmer, a bikini razor, or a combination of both?

Bikini razors are manual, you drag the razor over your skin to remove the hairs at the point they emerge from the surface of the skin. Usually the difference between a bikini razor and a normal razor is the size of the head, it will be much smaller on a bikini razor which makes it easier to shave those hard to reach small areas. This type of hair removal results in a very close shave, giving a smooth effect. Even the best bikini trimmer won’t ever give you as close a shave as a bikini razor. It’s a great choice if you want to achieve a really hairless outcome, or if you are trying to get particular with your hairstyle since you have quite a lot of control with the blade.
The downside of using a bikini razor is that your ever so sensitive skin down there can easily become irritated from direct contact with the bikini razor, especially if you have particularly sensitive skin, thick hairs, or if you are shaving the same place more than a couple of times a week.

A bikini trimmer is like any electric razor – it can be either foil, rotary or clipper. Electric bikini trimmers have moving blades or rotaries that spin round at a very fast speed to cut the hairs. There is usually a foil or some sort of protective cover between the blades and your skin, which means you don’t get as close a shave as with a bikini razor, but your skin will not face the same irritation since it doesn’t have any direct contact with the blade.
If you are looking to keep your pubic area tamed and trimmed, or you’re trying to manage regrowth in between waxes this is a great option, however you arguably won’t have as much precision and control as with a manual bikini razor.
Now you have the basics, you need to know what to look for in a product to find the best bikini trimmer (or bikini razor) for your own specific needs. So how do you know what to look for?
What to Look For?
This will really depend on your personal preferences. The products I’ve reviewed below focus on cost, convenience, quality and comfort as the main factors, so take that into account and try to focus on which factors are most important when choosing.
For example:
There are different options available when it comes to wet/dry functionality on bikini trimmers, which is a convenience factor, but these models may be harder to clean.
Or:
You may notice the best bikini trimmer for multi purpose hair removal and think that one is best for you, but it may not produce the desired hairless, silky smooth effect you are going for.
Just keep your own goals in mind, and make your decision based on these goals.
Let the countdown begin!

1. Panasonic ES246AC Bikini Shaper & Trimmer for Women
Panasonic has long been considered to produce some of the best electric hair removal products on the market.
At 1.5 inches and 4 ounces in weight, this particular bikini trimmer from Panasonic is super lightweight and slim, so not too bulky to fit into your cosmetics bag. It’s powered by 2 AA batteries, which is handy in the sense that you don’t need to constantly recharge after use, and there’s no plug to carry around with it (which I would almost certainly forget anyway) which makes it one of the best models for portability. The downside being that as far as bikini trimmers go, it runs through batteries relatively quickly so you’ll have to remember to keep a stock of spares.
The blades adjust in 5 different positions, so it’s one of the best devices whether you’re looking to maintain a long, short, or in-between length. Best practice to use it dry, it’ll save you a lot of cleaning hassle since wet hair tends to clog the guard. To clean the bikini trimmer after dry use you can just pop off the guard and brush the hairs off the head (try to do this carefully though because the plastic guard doesn’t feel totally indestructible).
Overall, this is a super travel-friendly model and great value for money.

2. SUPRENT USB Rechargeable Ladies Electric Shaver
This waterproof wet/dry bikini trimmer from Surpent is rechargeable through a USB adaptor or in any computer USB port, which makes it an excellent choice for a girl on the go.
There’s 2 different blade types: straight blade for use on legs or arms (i.e. less sensitive areas) and an arc blade for trimming your bikini line or underarms (the sensitive spots). The versatile functionality, i.e. being able to use it all over the body makes it one of the best options in my books, and the baby blue color gives it a nice look too. It gives a very smooth shave, with no pulling, razor rash, or nicks – perfect for someone who is new to the world of electric bikini trimmers.
This particular bikini trimmer is designed to be much quieter than other models, so it’s gotta be one of the best bikini trimmer choices if you prefer to be a little more subtle: there will be somewhat less buzz-buzz in the bathroom.

3. Schick Hydro Silk TrimStyle Moisturizing Razor with Bikini Trimmer
This model from Schick is a real winner in my humble opinion, since it’s a 2in1 bikini trimmer and bikini razor (and comes in cheaper than you would buy most of the other bikini trimmers on their own). This is great if you want to completely shave your bikini line and keep the rest trimmed up.
The bikini trimmer is totally waterproof, so this baby can be used in or out of the shower. It operates on 4 different settings, 3 with the case on and the last one with the case off for the closest shave, which is still more gentle on the skin than a razor shave. The varied settings make it one of the best bikini trimmer devices in terms of hair length versatility. The razor has a couple of HydroSilk moisturizing strips on it, which are especially good for preventing razor burn or irritation from friction of the blades.
The downside is that the trimmer end tends to get clogged with hair quite easily if you are not meticulous about cleaning it out, but this can be avoided with proper and regular cleans. It runs on 1 AAA battery (it has to be said though, it eats through these batteries pretty fast), and the razor blades can also be replaced with refills.
This is probably one of the best bikini trimmer products for girls who have more than one requirement when it comes to the down there hair.

4. Panasonic ES2207P Cordless Electric Razor with Pop-Up Trimmer
The Panasonic ES2207P doesn’t have a very sexy name, but it does have almost 3,000 five star reviews on Amazon, making it one of the highest rated products of its kind.
It’s a rechargeable model that comes with its own charger, fits nicely in your hand and is comfortable to use. The manufacturer recommends charging the bikini trimmer for 12 hours before each use for maximum effect (it will still work if you don’t charge it for this long but for sure the blades will spin with more power and hence be more effective when it’s fully charged).
This model can be used all over the body, yet is still precise and gentle enough to use as a bikini trimmer (although if you are going to use it all over your body I recommend doing the bikini area first, while the battery is charged up the most and the blades are most powerful- less hair pulling).
This model has a foil setting, which is great for shaving close to the skin; however be aware that is your hair is long enough to be cut with the clippers – do that first, and then use the foil after. Using the bikini trimmer with the foil on hair that is too long with cause it to catch and pull.

5. Gillette Venus Women’s Razor and Bikini Trimmer
The Gillette Venus razors are some of the best bikini razors for girls choosing to go manual over electric bikini trimmer. You’ll be able to achieve a very close, virtually hairless shave and it can be used all over your pubic area without a problem.
Being a specifically designed bikini razor, the design of the razor head is somewhat smaller than other models of disposables, which is great for getting into those smaller nooks and crannys when shaving your pubic hair.
The downside of this bikini razor is that if you are used to using a bigger razor you might find that you miss hairs and have to go over the same area more than once. The blades are extremely sharp and last much longer than a normal disposable razor, which is really important for ensuring the blades won’t drag over your skin causing irritation. There’s also a hydrating strip infused with aloe, which serves to save your skin from some amounts of irritation, too.
The drawback is that the razor head itself is not very flexible, and lacks some of the cushioning that other bikini razors have. This can result in cuts or nicks if you aren’t extremely careful. Overall it’s one of the best bikini razors for someone who is looking to get a very close shave on a budget.

6. Philips Precision Perfect HP6390/51 Trimmer
The Precision Perfect bikini trimmer does exactly what it says on the tin, the head is super small which results in a very precise shave indeed.
This model is specifically recommended for use on bikini lines, and other small sensitive areas like eyebrows, upper lip, even nose hairs. It comes with various trimming head attachments so it’s easy to achieve whatever hair length you’re going for (it’s also simple to adjust if you’re using it on different body parts). The blades tend to work a lot better on finer hairs, girls with extremely coarse hair may find this one less effective than a more robust model.
This bikini trimmer operates on one triple A battery, so no nasty cords hanging out the bottom- but it goes through batteries pretty fast so you will probably need to replace it once a week if you are shaving every day.
The Precision Perfect bikini trimmer comes with a shaping guide, which is a nice addition, especially if trimming up your lady parts is a new thing for you or you’re just looking for some guidance. The body of the bikini trimmer is extremely slim, not much bigger than a tube of mascara so it’s possibly the best bikini trimmer for discreetly slipping into your cosmetics bag.
It’s also very easy to hold when using it, the pretty pink and purple color is an added plus too.

7. Noxzema Bikini Shaver and Trimmer
The Noxzema disposable bikini razor is a wonderfully effective and most importantly, a very low cost bikini razor.
Designed specifically for shaving your bikini line, these are without doubt the teeniest razors I’ve ever seen. These heads are even smaller than the Venus Gillettes, which makes them one of the best bikini razor products for getting into the small areas.
Each bikini razor has just one blade, and are sharp enough to get the job done without the risk of cutting yourself. There’s a double guard either side of the blade which acts to raise the blade away from your skin to protect from cuts and irritation.
Despite what you’d think, you’ll still get a really smooth, close shave even with the protective guard. Each bikini razor also has a comfort hydration strip infused with shea butter – my favorite for keeping skin silky smooth and moisturized.
The price is unbeatable, you can buy a three-pack on Amazon for just a couple of dollars (they tend to sell in bulk packages so exact price will depend on how many you buy), the downside is that these guys are pretty difficult to find in stores lately so you probably will need to consider buying online.

And the Clear Winner Is…
Out of the top 7 products reviewed, Schick Hydro Silk TrimStyle takes the biscuit in my opinion.
I love the fact that it’s both a bikini trimmer and specific bikini razor in one device, it means it’s easy to achieve either a trimmed or ‘groomed’ look, or a total clean shave if that’s what you’re going for. Sometimes all I want is a clean shave on my bikini line and a trim everywhere else, so this is the best bikini trimmer for that. I don’t have to try anymore to make one device do 2 jobs that it isn’t designed for, and making my skin suffer for it.
Personally, I am grateful to not have an extra charger to carry around, just a spare AAA battery which is much more compact and travel friendly. The moisturizing strip keeps me feeling soft for a full 24 hours after shaving, which is a big plus for me since my hair grows fast and can feel sharp and stubbly quickly. The fact that the razor blades can also be changed is great too, because you can replace them when they get dull instead of having to buy a new device. It also spares me the pain and stresses of going for waxes, which is a welcome change.
All this for a ridiculously low price – it can’t be beaten!
